Letter From Jackie Cochran to Last Class of WASP Students Regarding Requirement to Disband

October 12, 1944

There was a push to get the WASP program militarized so that these women who served our country would no longer serve as civilians, but it reached Congress in 1944 when the need for pilots decreased.  WASP Program was deactivated in December 1944.  Jackie Cochran regretfully must tell the last class of WASP pilots, WASP 43-W-3 that their hopes of joining the elite group of flyers were dashed.
